CRO number
The company registration number the Companies Registration Office assigns on incorporation.
The CRO number is an Irish company's primary identifier. The Companies Registration Office issues it on incorporation, it stays with the company for life, and it is not reissued to anyone else after the company is dissolved.
Digits only, and no fixed length: numbers are assigned in sequence, so a company incorporated in the nineteenth century carries a short one and a company incorporated this year carries six. Quote it exactly as the register writes it; do not pad it with leading zeros.
It is not a tax number. Revenue issues a company its own tax reference number, and a VAT number on top of that where the company is registered for VAT — three separate numbers, none derivable from the others.
