Frequently asked questions about company search

How do I find a company by its CRO number?
Enter the CRO number in the search box and press Search — as the register writes it, with no leading zeros added. If the company is on the register we show its registration data, company type, registered office and the returns it has filed.
Can I search by company name?
Yes. Two characters of the registered business name are enough. The search returns every matching company together with its CRO number, legal form and address, so you can pick the right one.
Does company search cost anything?
No. Search, the register record and the filing history are free and need no account. Change monitoring and API access above the public endpoints are what will be paid.
Where does the data come from?
The register record and the index of filed financial statements come from the Companies Registration Office, which publishes both as open data under a CC BY 4.0 licence. VAT numbers are checked live against the European Commission's VIES service.
Why is there no turnover or profit figure?
Because the CRO's open data does not publish one. The Financial Statements dataset is an index of filings — which company filed, for what period, and the name of the document — and carries no turnover, profit, assets or employee figures for any company in any year. Absent is not zero, so we show which statements exist rather than inventing what is in them.
How often is the data updated?
The Companies Registration Office republishes both datasets daily and we reload them daily, so the record you see is the register as of the last sync rather than a live call to the CRO.
